Happy Mother's Day! The day started very cool and foggy and didn't really get warm or sunny until around 4:00. We continued on I-39 N through Illinois, into Wisconsin and finished the day on I-94 W in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The road in Wisconsin was in terrible condition, and we saw the evidence of the destruction crews for miles and miles. They had completely torn up every bit of the road down to the earth beneath.
Along the side of the road we saw what appeared to be a wooden road built with lumber that resembled railroad ties, piles of neatly stacked, freshly cut trees, large utility poles, and many construction vehicles . The wooden road provides a stable surface for the construction vehicles to maneuver in order to erect the huge utility poles. I found it interesting to watch for the progress for several miles along the way.
For tonight we're settled in at a KOA.
I've never seen a wooden road. Interesting. Makes sense. Do they pick up the old wood when that end is finished and put at the other end for new build?
ReplyDeleteYes, they reuse the wood.
