Santa Cruz

We arrived at Yosemite South RVC Outdoor Destinations Monday, where we met our friends, George and Patsy. They will be here during the remodeling of this park. We had planned to stay four nights, but the manager said we could stay as long as we like, so we decided to stay until July 5, after the holiday traffic.

Tuesday, Ray and I went to Yosemite National Park and I posted the pictures of that trip.  Wednesday, the four of us went to the coast for the day. We chose Santa Cruz since Patsy wanted to see surfers and I had seen lots of surfers there when we were there several years ago. The drive was interesting, we watched the parched land as it transformed into green fields of vegetables and fruit. As we got closer and closer to the coast, Ray would announce the change in temperature as it dropped. We have been experiencing temps over 100 degrees F and the temp on the coast was only 58 when we arrived.
We walked the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, the beach and wharf.  The harbor seals played in the bay, sailboats sailed by, and there were surfers off in the distance while we had lunch. Following our meal, we drove out to the lighthouse where we could watch the surfers in action. There were younger surfers not too far out, while the experienced went  further. At times we could hear them call out that a good wave was coming. They would line up and get ready for the ride.

After watching the surfing, we had a little more time before we needed to start the drive back to the RV park, so we drove south a few miles to Carmel. When we arrived at Carmel-by-the-Sea the temperature there was a cold 55. Everyone on the beach was bundled up in warm jackets and wrapped in blankets. We took a short walk on the beach, took a couple of pictures and got back in the warm car.
