Oakes

We arrived in Oakes Thursday, just as the Irrigation Days festivities were beginning. Oakes is a beautiful little town in southeast North Dakota. We began the summer adventure here because we've never been to ND and our friends Terry & Vicki live near here.

We went to the parade where hundreds of pounds of candy was thrown out to the spectators, adults and children,  lining the streets with bags ready to fill. No one was disappointed. There were carnival rides, street dances, tractor pulls including one for the kids on a pedal tractor, rodeo, demolition derby, and car show where the band played a Kentucky Headhunters song for the Kentucky visitors.

After spending the early part of the day in town at the Irrigation Days festivities we taken out to see some of the farmland. It was so interesting to see the fields and to learn a little bit of what it takes to  farm such an expanse. Then on to dinner at the Ranch House in Fullerton where we enjoyed a delicious meal. Our friends have a beautiful home and have been wonderful hosts.

  1. Glad you got to visit Terry and Vickie. We were fascinated by their farm and hard work that goes into running it!
